Mesquite Trail Ride Rules

Ride Rules

  • Attend Safety Meeting before each ride - this is mandatory!
  • Please wear your name badge
  • Do not bring stallions on the ride.
  • Leave your dogs at home (even though we love them). There are no dogs allowed in camp. No dogs allowed left in trailers while we ride.
  • No private campfires but please join the group campfire.
  • As guest of the Ranch please pick up your litter (bring container for butts if you smoke).
  • Ride behind the trail boss and in front of the drag. Be sure you know who these riders are before you leave camp.
  • Ribbon your horse's tail if he's a kicker - make it so the ribbon can be seen from a distance.
  • Ride with courtesy and be aware of others.
  • Ride your horse at a walk pace when on an organized ride with the group.
  • Avoid tailgating the horse in front of you, but don't leave huge gaps in ride group.
  • Please do not ride alone.  If you are in a smaller group, please leave gates the way you find them and avoid all ranch livestock.
  • Above all, enjoy and be safe.

Mesquite Trail Ride Notes

Mesquite Trail Ride, Dine & Dance

Mesquite Riders, after many discussions with the other organizers, we have made the decision that we will be postponing the 16th Mesquite Trail Ride from September 2026 to a date to be determined in 2027. Many thanks to those of you who recruited folks over the last month however we still came up short of the number of riders where we felt comfortable moving ahead with the ride for this year.  We have endeavored through the years to make sure that the MTR was a high-value ride including quality camp/ride sites, dining experiences and evening entertainment. The ride organizers will be having a meeting soon to discuss future MTR rides. Some ideas are to go to an every other year ride schedule or perhaps change the time of year to a late Spring ride. Or it may be time to change the format to something else entirely. If you have suggestions or ideas about how to make the ride viable again, please feel free to send us a note
We want to say thanks to those of you that have been dedicated riders, and we apologize to the 10 folks that were going to be first year MTR riders. We hope that you will consider signing up for our next ride. I will be in touch with those of you who have already sent checks for the ride, and we can return or destroy those checks depending on your preference.
We will keep all of you updated on the decisions that are made regarding MTRs future.
In the meantime, Happy Trails
